25 November 2024, Company News

Douglas Pharmaceuticals has partnered with Kardex to achieve a historic milestone: the installation of New Zealand’s first AutoStore™ system. This cutting-edge automated storage and retrieval solution (AS/RS) has revolutionized storage and fulfillment operations, setting a benchmark for innovation in the country.

A Proud History of Excellence

Founded in 1967 in New Zealand, Douglas is one of the country’s largest privately-owned pharmaceutical companies and a respected name in the global pharmaceutical industry. As well as producing prescription drugs, Douglas develops, manufactures and distributes a wide range of consumer health and wellness products.

Meeting Growing Demand with Automation

As New Zealand’s leading supplier by volume into the growing pharmacy channel, Douglas faced an increasing demand for inventory storage to support domestic orders for retail, wholesale, and direct-to-consumer (DTC) customers. This demand was bringing its West Auckland warehouse to near capacity.

The AutoStore solution increases storage capacity by 30% while utilizing just 10% of the footprint required by traditional storage methods. The system at Douglas’ Auckland facility features 15,000 high-density bins, managed by 13 high-speed robots, 3 CarouselPorts, and 1 ConveyorPort.

This pioneering investment reflects Douglas Pharmaceuticals’ commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence, setting a new benchmark for automation in New Zealand’s pharmaceutical sector.
